Handling plastic ampoules

Handling and use of ampoules and bags

Plastic containers for liquid and sterile medicines such as infusion or injection solutions are 100% leak-proof thanks to optimal sealing and are therefore tamper-proof. Materials such as polypropylene are temperature-resistant and can therefore be sterilized at temperatures above 120°C. This helps to guarantee perfect sterility throughout the entire shelf life of the product.

Sterility is paramount in order to prevent diseases caused by germs and to ensure sterile working conditions.

Plastic is suitable for single use in medicine and therefore increases patient safety. Break resistance increases effective and cost-saving work.

Application also becomes safer. With plastic ampoules with a Luer or Luer-Lock head, the user can draw up the syringe without a needle, thus avoiding possible injuries to the user.

Plastic bottles also have a background in drug therapy safety. Plastic infusion bottles collapse without ventilation. This allows vital sterile solutions to be infused without air exchange. Caps on plastic bottles with two puncture points show the user that nothing has been injected into the other port when using a port with, for example, infusion equipment. This is an important point for risk prevention.

For these reasons, plastic infusion bottles and plastic ampoules from Deltamedica GmbH offer a high standard of safety for patients and users!

Safe administration of injection solutions

1.Cut off

Before use, the ampoule should be shaken thoroughly or tapped several times (with repeated short movements) to ensure that the contents are mixed homogeneously. This step is important to ensure that all components of the injection solution are evenly distributed and that a consistent dosage is guaranteed. Separation takes only a few seconds and optimally prepares the ampoule for withdrawal.

2. Open

After burning, the ampoule is carefully opened at the designated break point. The ampoule head is separated with minimal force to access the contents. This should be done precisely and carefully to maintain the sterility of the contents. A clean break is crucial for safe handling and quality.

3. Connect

In the third step, the syringe is attached to the ampoule connector. Depending on the design, there are different methods: With Luer connectors, the syringe is simply pressed into the ampoule until it stops to firmly connect the two components. With Luer-Lock connections, the syringe is first locked securely in place by turning it clockwise before being pressed in as far as it will go – this ensures maximum safety and prevents accidental slipping during injection. In both cases, the injection solution is combined under controlled conditions to produce a homogeneous, ready-to-use solution. A secure connection is essential for the quality and safety of the application.

4.Remove

In the final step, the injection solution is withdrawn from the ampoule using the connected syringe. Care should be taken to ensure that all steps are performed under sterile conditions. The solution should be used immediately after preparation to ensure quality and safety. With Luer connections, the syringe can be reused immediately after removing the solution. With Luer-Lock connections, the syringe is securely detached by turning it counterclockwise before use. In both cases, contamination-free working is essential for safe application.
